“Lighten Up! … A Celebration of Faith and Family “ is coming to Ss. Peter and Paul Parish to kick-off our 2010 Faith Formation Program. Nationally-known Catholic inspirational comedian, singer, storyteller, teacher and author Doug Brummel and his “cast of characters” will lead our parish community on a unique faith journey on Sunday, September 19, 2010.

The morning session begins at 9:15 am SHARP in the Church is geared to all of our Faith Formation children and their parents. The 10:30 am mass will immediately follow.

The evening session begins at 5:45 pm SHARP in the Church is geared to our young adults, college students, Confirmation candidates and their parents. The 7:00 pm mass will immediately follow.

All are welcome to either session!

In these busy times with everyone doing their own things, it is a real gift to have this celebration in which all generations come together to celebrate the gift of faith and family! Everyone is welcome, so call your neighbors and friends! Please also make a special invitation to anyone you know who has been away from the Church and invite them to join us for this unique opportunity.

We look forward to seeing everyone at Lighten Up!

The readings this weekend focus our attention on the virtue of humility. Both the readings of Sirach and the Gospel passage of Luke give us food for thought on how to be more humble. In a society that seems to be addicted to celebrity, prestige, power and attention, the Word of God asks us to stand out and to stand up for something different. Undoubtedly, truly being humble people takes work and prayer. I share below a Litany that may help us in our quest for true and lasting humility.

Litany of Humility

O Jesus! meek and humble of heart, Hear me.
From the desire of being esteemed,
Deliver me, Jesus.
From the desire of being loved…
From the desire of being extolled …
From the desire of being honored …
From the desire of being praised …
From the desire of being preferred to others…
From the desire of being consulted …

FAITH FORMATION REGISTRATION

Welcome to Family Faith Formation 2010!

Many families have already registered for another year of faith formation here in our parish. Those families who have not yet registered, please click here for the registration form. Please complete the entire form and send to the parish as soon as possible. We will not have registrations at the Parish Offices.

The fee will stay the same $100 for the 1st child $25 each additional child.

There is a late fee of $10 if families are not registered by September 15, 2010.

If you are a new registration, please bring a copy of your child’s baptismal certificate. If your child is receiving sacraments and goes to Catholic School the registration fee is waived as it is part of your school tuition.

OPEN CALL – Choir of Saints Peter & Paul

Consider participating in this vibrant and rewarding ministry which enhances the parish liturgies. The group rehearses Wednesday evenings 7:30-9:30 pm from September to May (with a winter break) and sings the mass at 10:30 am on Sundays. The choir offers the beautiful Candlelight Carol service in December and plays a vital role in the liturgies of Holy Week and Easter. Moms and Dads of Children with Special Needs

Attached are two flyers for groups that are geared toward the different needs that moms and dads have raising a child with special needs. Currently there is one group for the dads and they come from all over the archdiocese. For the moms groups, there are at least two options to offer.

Ss. Peter and Paul parishioners have been very generous with supporting the Hoboken shelter. Please note that there is always need of the following donations:

Kitchen Supplies: Hot/Cold Cups, Paper/Plastic Plates, Napkins, Utensils, Dish Detergent, Laundry Detergent & Garbage Bags.
Food/Drinks: Coffee, Milk, Sugar, Juice, Fruit, Frozen Meat, & Prepared Sandwiches.
Toiletries/Clothes: Soap, Shampoo, Razors, Toilet Paper, Toothbrushes, Toothpaste, Deodorant, Tissues, Socks, & Underpants.
Office Supplies: Postage Stamps, Envelopes, & Pens.

The Shelter is open to receive donations 9am-9pm on weekdays & 5pm-9pm on weekends.
