Your Catholic initiation

Jesus said to them, “I tell you the truth, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you have no life in you. Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day.”
— John 6:53-54

Welcome To The Faith

Congratulations to our parents who have children who will begin their preparation for the reception of First Holy Communion. Our 2017-2018 Program has four components:

Small Group (Class) Instruction

Classes meet at 410 Hudson Street — next to the Parish Offices.

Classes begin at 10:00 AM and end at 11:15 AM. Please be on time.

The student text books, God’s Gift: Reconciliation and God’s Gift: Eucharist will be distributed to students on the first day of class in September and January respectively.

Supplemental material may also be distributed throughout the year.

The Family Assembly Component

The purpose of the Family Assembly is to gather as a parish family in order to share an experience for learning more about the faith in a non-classroom setting. These assemblies are gatherings of speakers, parish staff members, students, parents and catechists. The Family Assemblies are scheduled four times a year in November, February, March, and May after the 9:00 AM Mass. See the Faith Formation Booklet for the assembly schedule. Parents and their children are expected to attend the Family Assemblies.

The Family Mass Component

The purpose of the family Masses is to gather the students and families together to celebrate and worship with the wider Christian Family. Mass attendance is essential for all Faith Formation students, especially for those preparing to receive First Communion. Students and their parents are therefore invited and expected to attend the 9:00 AM Family Mass each week.

The At-Home Component

Each family will receive a copy of The Catholic Home and Celebrating Sunday for Catholic Families. These books offer a variety of activities and learning opportunities for parents to engage with their children in the comfort of their own home. The at-home component for this class should happen each week throughout the school year.

All are welcome!

We look forward to seeing you.
