Liturgical Ministries
Ministries at SPP
There are many ways to lend your time and service towards one of our Parish Ministries. Consider becoming a lector or usher at Mass, joining the choir, or teaching as a catechist in our Religious Education program. There is a place for you at Saints Peter and Paul!
Lector
1 Hour on Saturday Evening or Sunday Mass
-
The role of the Lector is to proclaim the Word of God in the Sacred Scriptures during the Liturgy of the Word at Mass. Effective proclamation involves the delivery of the message with clarity, conviction, and appropriate pace. Proclamation is a special ministry which presupposes faith and also rouses faith in those who hear the Word of God proclaimed. In the act of communal listening, the worshipers experience not only unity among themselves but also the presence of Christ speaking to them through the Word. This is a great stewardship of your time and talent for the parish, if you are looking for an easy way to get involved. Simple training takes place prior to serving at a Liturgy and you will be scheduled based on availability.
-
If you would be willing to give of your time, please contact Katie Bakarich or Peter Bakarich, our coordinators for volunteer Lectors.
Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion
1 Hour on Saturday Evening or Sunday Mass
-
Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion are lay people who administer Holy Communion to the faithful during the Liturgy. A willingness to minister in this capacity reflects not only a response to our Baptismal call to serve the people of God, but shows a reverence and respect for the Sacred Body & Blood of Our Lord Jesus Christ. This minister recognizes the Body of Christ in those to whom the Eucharist is offered and fully participates in the life of the parish and the wider community through this ministry.

Usher/Minister of Hospitality

-
The role of the usher/greeter is one of offering a friendly, welcoming presence to those coming to worship, of providing assistance to parishioners in need or during emergencies and performing such tasks as taking up the collection, arranging the Offertory Gift Bearers, ensuring the presence of the other Liturgical Ministers, assisting with the flow of parishioners during Communion, disseminating the church bulletin and participating in ‘neatening’ the church after completion of the Mass.
